Sunday Mornin' Hope : What do you want from God Empty Sunday Mornin' Hope : What do you want from God

Ps 37:4 -
Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

What a great scripture with promise and condition. God has given us promises with great reward. Some might want to use this like a Christmas list for Santa or in this case God. So maybe we need to find out what 'delight' means in the original Hebrew. Here is what I found in the 'studylight.org' reference. Part of it's meaning comes from the word gn( which is also part of the word gnosko or intimacy. When we know God like Moses and spend time wanting to find what pleases Him, that's a part of intimacy in the spirit.

(Hithpael)
to be happy about, take exquisite delight
This is another definition of the same word for 'delight'. It doesn't mean to be perfect in every way. We are all far from that. God really wants us to experience the joy and love and peace that comes only in His presence. He actually wants us to take exquisite delight in Him. That's a little hard when we're so busy with our schedules. Most of the time we treat God like a drive thru at McDonalds. "Here's my order, See how fast you can accurately fill it. Thanks!"

Baseball players talk about the sweet spot on a bat. When you hit that spot the ball will sail out of Wrigley Field. Where exactly is that spot on the bat? You have to find it. The Babe had his own special bat made for him and named it 'Darlin'. I think he spent a long time with just Darlin and knew when he found the sweet spot.

The second part of that verse says He God will give you the desires of your heart. Desire comes from the Hebrew word: "hl)#m" which means request or petition. Do you think it is possible that God has great desires and plans for your life that are too awesome to reveal all at once? So maybe He puts them in your heart and calls them yours. He wants you to ask Him for those things that you want. He really wants you to enjoy life with abundance of laughter and love. He made you to smile twice as much as frown. Frowning is twice as hard as smiling.

Let's say your bike is about worn out. You've been looking at this really cool 2015 Harley in the window of the dealer showroom for weeks. Finally you get the nerve to go in during store hours and sit on it and make motorcycle noises. The dealer watches you from inside his office and just smiles. You don't care. This is the one you want. It's the right color and has every feature possible on a bike. It makes the latest Goldwing look like a Sportster. The salesmen are instructed to leave you alone. After twenty minutes of drooling over the bike, you get the nerve up to look at the price. The tag says "Paid for, Love Dad"!!!!!! Your eyes blurr and you run to the closest salesman to see if there's another bike for sale because you know this can't be from your dad.  The store owner comes out laughing and grinning "You're father came in many years ago and purchased this one for you. And if you changed your mind, you could pick out any one you wanted."  As you ride your new bike out of the store you can't wipe that stupid grin off your face. How could he have known? He's been gone for years. He's always wanted you to enjoy life. Your heavenly Father paid the price for your joy years ago. It's all up to you to receive it.

That's the way God is with us today. There's a sweet spot in spending time with Him and reading His love letter. His desire is to lavish you with the best, but too often you settle for 'good enough'. Knock it off. If you want something...ASK! The only condition is His will. Will you leave Him after you get it?

1 John 5:
This Is Written That You May Know
13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life. 14 This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if  we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we  know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.

There's a sweet spot in knowing Jesus. I hope you are riding in it today. Have a great week and remember I'm praying for you.
