Been a tough few days

It has been a very tough few days here. Got home from work on Friday and my mom was worried about dad. She called the hospice nurse and they said to give him some morphine and sent the nurse out to check on him. A few days earlier she had called and they told her it was just the cruds. My mom said no she has been married to him for 40 years and know him. The nurse came to check on him and took us aside to talk.
Got quite a shocker from her. She told us he was actively dying. He has been having a hard time breathing and she said he has the death rattle. She wasn't sure if he would make it through the night or the weekend. We called 911 to have them come and help get him into bed. There was no way we were going to be able to get him up and into his bed. so he has been in bed since Friday. He hasn't eaten since Friday morning and not drinking much. We are keeping him as comfortable as possible and giving him morphine. But so far he is hanging in there. We are just praying that he doesn't suffer for much longer.
This has by far been one of the toughest weekends. Not sure how I am going to work tomorrow but I need to work and take the days off when really needed. My husband will be home tomorrow and my brother is staying with us.
But at least it is supposed to be sunny for the next 10 days and I will have some nice sunny dry riding to work and home. That will help with the stress.

Amen to what Neon said.  Praying for you and your family.  I understand not wanting to leave but having to work.
