What I did on my Labor Day....
So it was a boring start to my Labor Day.. and then I got the call.. my daughter (8 months prego) was being rushed to Asheville E.R. cause her baby wasn't moving much.. After about 4 hours or so up there and an epideral (sp) the baby's heartbeat plummeted and an emergency C Section was done.
3:17 pm Jacob O'Brian was born and rushed to the NICU surrounded by doctors. He is doing "ok" atm but is still really touch and go. Lots of fluid on/in the lungs and he has fluid under his skin.. so he is quite swollen. Breathing tube and 2 chest tubes.. blood transfusions and a ton of other stuff Im sure Im forgetting..
Please keep him on your minds for us as we tackle this hurdle in our lives..

Re: What I did on my Labor Day....
Prayers sent!!! Its not easy seeing those little babies in the Nicu!! My grandson was in there for a week as well and I went there to hold him every day after work. I am so glad we had that special bonding time together, even if he won't ever remember it, I will.

Re: What I did on my Labor Day....
prayers are definalty sent, he is cute, i hate to see all the cords. Just keep in mind that doctors don't contol his life, God does!! Have faith and pray that God will watch over him.
Re: What I did on my Labor Day....
Prayers sent to all. Keep us posted. I feel for you guys. My youngest (now17) spent 2 weeks in ICU at Vanderbilt. He was premature, with under developed lungs that scared us to death. Now his lungs are fine, he just scares us to death.
Just let the doctors do their thing and god do his. Your grandson will be in our thoughts.

Re: What I did on my Labor Day....
Hey all.. quick (Ill try) update.. Talked to the doc yesterday and Jacob's doing ok.. from the neck down he is progressing very well. Lots of swelling has decreased in his hands/feet and we can see wrinkles! He seems to be responding to our touch and that is promising. Today the doc turned off the breathing machine for about 10 seconds to see if Jacob would breathe on his own.. and he took about 5 good deep breaths while my wife and I were at his side.. that was FANTASTIC!!!
However he told us yesterday that Jacob was born with Hydrops. This is a condition where there is to much fluid under his skin and sadly if he survives he will have some form of disability. His EEG had some irregularities that they are concerned about. He hasn't opened his eyes yet (they are still VERY swollen). He also doesn't have a gag reflex.. but with his breathing tube in for 4 days now I don't know if he would have one anyway.. needless to say we are going to be on a very long and rough journey with this little man.
My daughter, wife and myself want to thank each and every one of you for your prayers and well wishes.
This truly is a magnificent Haven.
Thanks to all of you

Re: What I did on my Labor Day....
Hey just wanted to check in and see how jacob was doing. I also wanted to share a little story of mine, stumble, and firelady. My nephew(thier grandson) spend a couple weeks in icu when he was born and the doctors told us that he would have to battle with high blood pressure problems until at the very least 6 years or longer. We knew God was the higher authority and we prayed over that little man and God proved them wrong!!!! When he got out of the hospital, I gave him his meds for about 3-4 months and the doctor was amazed that it was all gone. He is perfectly healthy today.
I have strong faith that God's hand are holding little Jacob. Your family here at Biker Haven loves you guys and are praying hard.
