Harley vs. Goldwing
Does anyone have any experiance with the Harley Classic Electra Glide and the Honda Goldwing? Good and bad points. Which is best. Also which holds it's value the best over the years. Jess told me to go with the Goldwing.

Re: Harley vs. Goldwing
good question Wes. If you want a bike for resale, get the Harley. If you want to enjoy the ride and dependability get a Goldwing. The Harley is a great bike and if the price was right I'd buy one. But in my experience, my friends Harley's just don't last as long or ride as well. A 1500 or 1800 Wing is almost bullet proof. The 1200's are nice with the exception of the stator failure. My 1200's in pieces right now as I am putting it back together after replacing one.
I'd take Jess's advice. You and her could take trips to Florida tomorrow on the wing. If both bikes had 50,000 miles on it, you'd see a long maintenance sheet on the Harley and a blank piece of paper on the wing.

Re: Harley vs. Goldwing
I have a buddy in BACA who just rebuilt the engine on his Harley at 67,000 miles. He was on his way to a meeting in Tennessee and it came apart. No indication, just blew. I agree with Dino, Harleys are a great name but, for long term bulletproof-ness, get the Wing.

Re: Harley vs. Goldwing
I've been on several different Harleys and that has always been my bike of choice. But however....I do have to admit that (whats his name's) Goldwing was the most comfortable bike to take a long trip on. And the heated seats didn't hurt during those freezing winter rides. And besides, they don't have a very good selection of honda clothing....just sayin"

" Whats His Name "
I think that if " Money Was No Object " I would have a Harley.
Besides, I am way too young for a Wing. --------

Re: Harley vs. Goldwing
My brother and most everyone where I hang out have Harley's. IMO, if they lasted longer it would justify the higher cost. Winger on one of my websites just turned 300K miles on his '02. A lot of cars do not make it to 300K much less a motorcycle.
A Harley friend of mine and I were talking this week about some issues of the HD engines like the cam tensioners and how a lot were having problems around 60K miles or less. Almost all motorcycles are going to have batteries, alternators, shocks to be replaced along the way.
For comfort on long rides which I have been and will be doing in the future, HD Ultra Classic and Goldwings are the best.

If your urine is that bright of a yellow you need to drink more water.

Re: Harley vs. Goldwing
My friend and I were at a light. He has a FLHTCUI and his hands were shaking so hard on the grips, they were a blurr.
I've been looking at an early 1800 yeller wing near my town. $12000 for it and only 18,000 miles on the clock. It is loaded and sweet. The guy retired and too old to feel confident on it. So he has it parked in his shed and starts it weekly. His wife walks out and says "So, Where did you travel today?" I haven't seen it in person yet, BUT my dreams are pretty clear.

I really liked the BMW K1200LT I had. Didn't matter how you rode it 48-50 mpg all day long. Do the 1/4 in 12.4. Set the cruise at 90 put your feet up and relax.
