I don't believe in coincidence
Got a call yesterday afternoon from my son. He just got hired as an EMT and was doing a patient transfer in another county. They we finished and starting to leave when they saw a truck cut off a motorcycle causing a bad wreck. The guy was wearing a BACA patch and a Flatrock T-Shirt. His first words were "Damn you got here quick". They stabilized the guy and had to turn him over to the other ambulance service for transport. They couldn't find any ID (it was lost in the collision) and the rider became incoherent and couldn't tell them his name.
As soon as I heard this I rode to the ER to identify the guy. I thought I knew who it was by his description, but I wasn't going to call anybody's wife until I knew for sure. Sure enough it was who I thought it was and we got a hold of his wife. That's when I found out they were separated and she had just filed for divorce.
I stayed around until his wife and family showed up. They operated on him last night and he's doing OK.
Here's a couple of things that came from this.
First, wallets in the back pocket don't survive a slide across the asphalt very well. If your only ID is in your wallet, don't count on anybody knowing who you are for quite some time. If my son had not recognized the patch and called me, they probably would not have been able to ID him or contact his next of kin until this morning. Trying to ID him via the tag on his bike didn't work very well for a couple of reasons.
Also, half helmets only work half way. Nothing is going to protect against the g forces involved when you go from 60 to 0. However, he did have an open head injury from something hitting him behind his ear.
Finally, his wife has been staying at the hospital with him and there may be hope for reconciliation between the two of them.
I don't believe in coincidence and I think something good is going to come from this in this guy's life.
Please keep him, Roadblock, and his family in your prayers.

Re: I don't believe in coincidence
Just got word his second surgery went well. They were able to get out all the bone fragments and there's no sign of infection. They'll be rebuilding his femur next week, along with his knee. Looks like he'll be stuck in bed for the next 90 days.
Looks like his body is going to be OK, now we're praying for this to help him get his priorities in life right.

God brings situations together for a purpose. Sometimes He stops us from destruction other times He brings us to a destruction to offer hope of new beginnings. 12 to go.

Re: I don't believe in coincidence
Update. Thanks for the prayers. His surgeries have gone really good and he's already starting physical therapy. He'll still be in the hospital between 1 and 3 months, but he's healing well.

God works in strange ways sometimes. I think he always has a master plan. Your friend seems to be making excellent progress. Hopefully this will bring his marriage and family back together and make them all realize that you should take NOTHING for granted. Prayers sent.
