My new toy.
Long term project for when I have the time and money to rebuild. Now all I need is something to put in. Thinking some kind of rat rod. This thing is 239 cid with 100hp. Been in storage for probably 30 years. Pulled the plugs and turned it over with a wrench so it is not stuck.

I think so. This is a later model Ford engine. The Mercury engines were a little larger with 110 hp.hastemaker wrote:Wasn't some of the old flat heads also 85 hp?

Re: My new toy.
Hard to believe that 85 to 110 hp was used to move all the heavy metal those cars were made of...my new p/u has 395hp..

I told Cathie that motor weighs almost as much as our wing and the wing has more power.

We had an old cut down back in the 60's with this engine running straight exhaust and I loved the sound of it.actionpack wrote:way back a friend had a 49 ford , that thing made the sweetest sound in second gear going down a hill making the cherry bombs make music , cool

Re: My new toy.
My new toy may not be such a good deal after all. Have been studying and doing research on the motor. Been reading that every flathead has cracks in the block. Most can be fixed. The old engines can be very expensive to rebuild. A lot of people spend $5K-$10K building these motors. I wont. Thinking maybe I should part this thing out and use the money to build a SBC (small block Chevy) engine. I could put that in my 82 Chevy P/U. Haven't made up my mind yet.
